Big Boi feat. Kelly Rowland – “Mama Told Me”…and Why Little Dragon Isn’t On the Record

Today Big Boi shared “Mama Told Me,” the latest track from his Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors album.

As you can see, it features Kelly Rowland. Which is different from the original version with Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon on it.

Big Boi and Little Dragon hooked up in the studio one night after the bands Atlanta show a while back. I’d been anticipating the proper release of the song since I snuck in Stankonia and heard this (and a second song they did together) about a year or so ago. Even more people were looking forward to hearing it after video of Big and Nagano performing it live surfaced online.

But, due to some BS that a birdie whispered in my ear, Little Dragon’s recording home at the time they made the song wouldn’t clear them for the record. So some calls were made and Kelly Rowland comes in as a replacement…which still sounds good.

But still, WTF? First label BS keeps Andre 3000 from appearing on the Sir Lucious Leftfoot album and now this. While this is disappointing, it doesn’t stop the train. The stuff I’ve heard off the new album is still fie.
