Ra Ra – “Higher” (mixtape)

Just take my word for it, this project is dope.

Ra Ra is the artist formerly known as Young Capone from So So Def a few years back. I got a chance to hear this some months ago and have been riding to it myself for a minute now and shit is dope as hell. I don’t want to compare it to anything, but if you miss the days of riding around listening to somebody just snap on some fie ass beats, this is for you. If you like the feeling of listening to something with no expectations, but getting pleasantly surprised, this is for you. Hell, if you just a cool ass nigga like that, this is for you.

Over the past few months I’ve seen articles saying that “Southern Hip Hop” today doesn’t really have a voice or sound to it. Alot of it comes off as somebody making something that’s “supposed” to sound like Southern Hip Hop and comes off as carbon copy of something from yesteryear. This project definitely reminds you of better times in Southern Hip Hop, but not to the point that it sounds like a retread. When click play on Ra Ra’s music, you will know his voice and that it’s different.

My personal favs are “96″ feat. Big Sant, “Hard,” “Gone,” “Jealous Niggaz,” and “Diamonds”…but really, every song on here is just as good as the other. I suggest you go ahead and download this and take it straight to the car.

It would probably be better to let Ra Ra explain the tape himself, so peep the clip below.
