Just in case you haven’t been keeping up on Twitter. Killer Mike and El-P have been in the studio together for the past week or so. I’ve been kind of tied up myself so I didn’t really get a chance to stop by and see how things were sounding until this past Tuesday. It pretty much sounds like what you would expect from these two. Dark, dense, gritty, raw and any other adjective you can come up with to describe all things hard and rough around the edges. Everything that I heard was in phase one of the recording process, but, I’m looking forward to hearing how this turns out. The project they are recording for is titled R.A.P. Music (Rebellious African People Music). I coined the term in a random twitter rant I was on some months ago. Mike said he liked it and that inspired him to record a certain type of record and asked if he could use it. So yeah. The album will be put out by Adult Swim, in similar fashion to how they put out Witchdoctor’s last album. R.A.P. Music will also include production from a few of your other favorite “underground” producers and MC’s but I will leave Mike the pleasure of revealing those details as they develop. It is set to drop around mid-2011.
As for PL3DGE, the records on their are pretty strong too. If Pledge II was Mike’s The Diary then PL3DGE is sounding like The Untouchable. It sounds pretty balanced so far and a lot of these big shots in Atlanta are finally acting like they aren’t afraid to work with him, so expect some features on the album. He has a song called “Animal” with Gucci Mane on it that goes pretty hard. He’s been performing snippets of the other songs here and there around town. Plans are in order to shoot a video for “Burn” too. PL3DGE is scheduled for a March release.
